چکیده
This paper reports on an optical packet switching network demonstrator, constructed under the EPSRC-funded WASPNET project. Header deletion and insertion, routing, switching and contention resolution were demonstrated, facilitating optical packet transmission over 14 nodes. 2001 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.2330) Fiber optics communications; (060.4250) Networks

High-speed All- Optical Time Division Multiplexed Node
In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...
متن کامل4 Wavelength Routing / Optical Burst Switching / Optical Access Network 4 - 1 Experimental Study of a Burst - Switched WDM Network Testbed
The advances of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology and rapid growth of Internet traffic have generated a serious mismatch between huge transmission capacity of optical fibers and routing/forwarding capability of electronic routers, which has triggered many research activities on optical switching technologies. Among various switching technologies, optical burst switching (OBS)[1]...
متن کاملWDMJTDM Optical Packet Switched Network for Supercomputing
A new optical packet switching network and its enabling technologies are investigated for implementation in a Petaflops scale supercomputer system. We capitalize on the immense bandwidth of the optical fiber interconnects by deploying WDM/TDM packet payloads. To accommodate current optical switching technologies, the routing operations in the network are drastically simplified and the need for ...
متن کاملRound-robin wavelength assignment: A new packet sequence criterion in Optical Packet Switching SCWP networks Authors
The WASPNET project proposed a packet sequence criterion to preserve end-to-end packet order in Optical Packet Switching (OPS) networks controlled by the Scattered Wavelength Path (SCWP) operational mode. This paper shows that this packet ordering methodology causes performance impairments, related to unbalanced wavelength usage in fiber links. This skewed usage is inherent to the WASPNET seque...
